It is always best to do all the brushing, trimming etc first then end with a bath/shower with a good quality dog shampoo such as Bob Martins gentle puppy and dog shampoo. If you have a grooming table put your dog on it with the vet lift (one arm under back legs and one arm under chest area). I like to start with an all over brush with a long toothed brush as this helps remove a lot of the non shedding hair. then using an electric dog hair trimmer such as a whale to trim the coat. Depending on your breed and whether you are trimming for a show dog or a pet cut, trim to your breeds guidelines. Hair on and around the ears and eyes may need trimming with hand scissors or layering scissors. Some dogs will need the hair between the pads of their paws trimming. It is good to check and trim your dogs nails if needed whilst they are on the grooming table. Some breeds need to have the hair plucked from their ear canal to prevent ear infections. There is a specialist talc that helps your finger get a good grip available at good pet suppliers. Dogs do not like this but it is necessary with a Soft Coated Wheaten for the health of their ears. The more frequently you do it the easier it becomes.
